Lamb's Wool for Toe Cushioning
Lambswool is a great way to cushion crooked hammertoes. Whether it be painful toe corns, an irritation between toes, shoes rubbing on toe knuckles or excessive sweating between digits.
Lambswool is an overlooked medical treatment for these conditions. It used to be the go to medical treatment for painful hammertoes. It is inexpensive, ease of use, natural and allows air to flow to the skin. Recently, gel or foam padding is more popular. Unfortunately, the adhesive may irritate the skin and may cause sores. Also, these newer treatment options do not allow air to flow to the skin.
Lamb's wool is a soft, comfortable material. They come in strands that can be easily pulled off of the amount you need to wrap a toe. Not all lambswool is the same. Atlas Biomechanics' lamb's wool is manufactured for medical grade usage. Imperfections are removed.
To properly cushion one crooked hammertoe with lambswool just pull off a small strand. Wrap around the area that needs to be cushioned, especially the toe knuckle. Carefully roll on your sock of stocking. Do not use too much. If you use too much, it can be bulky in the shoe. Usually, with lambswool, less is more.
An example of how Lamb's Wool can help with toe corn pain is a physician who told us about his patient. She was a 82 year old who have numerous contracted toes. She could not wear normal shoe gear without pain. Her skin was thin and easily irritated. Her physician would trim her corns and apply an adhesive felt corn pad. After several treatment sessions, her knuckles where the corns were located became red and irritated. The physician then started using Atlas Biomechanics medical grade lamb's wool. The irritation and redness started to go away after three days. The patient to this day, she continues to use lambswool without any difficulties.
Lamb's wool is a good way to cushion toes.

Lambs Wool for Toe Cushioning and Protection
Lamb’s wool is a natural material that will mold to the shape of your foot and allow to air flow between toes. This is not something that a foam, felt or silicone pad can do. More people should try inexpensive lambs wool for their foot care needs.
Lambswool has been used for numerous foot and toe issues for years. Unfortunately, newer and less effective cushions are being used by the general public and physicians. Lambs wool is an effective and less costly toe and foot pain treatment option.
Lamb’s Wool is versatile in its uses.
- To treat one crooked hammertoe to prevent corn formation and shoe irritation. Just pull a small strand of lambswool and gently rotate one or two times around the digit.
- Maceration and fungal skin infections between toes pull a larger strand of lambswool and weave in between all 5 toes to allow air flow. Lambs wool will allow air to circulate in between the toes to dry out over wet skin (maceration).
- The tips of crooked hammertoes are painful and need to be cushioned. Then two small pieces of lambswool would be needed. One small strand is placed over the toe tip and the second is then wrapped around the toe to secure the first.
- For ballet pointe shoes, a larger piece is wrapped over the first through the fifth toes, covering the tips. Then another large piece is wrapped over the metatarsals to lock in the toe part.
- Another way to cushion ballet pointe shoes is to take a large strand and place it into the toe box of the pointe shoe. Then wear the shoe for several minutes. The lambswool will mold to the shape of the dancer’s foot.
