How can foot callus be prevented?

Foot cushion pads are an inexpensive treatment option for many patients. It can help prevent surgery and more expensive treatment alternatives. How can foot callus be prevented?

How can foot callus be prevented?

1. Eliminate ill fitting shoes. Shoes can be either too tight causing pressure or too loose causing friction. Either way, by wearing a proper fitting shoe will help decrease callus formation.

2. Eliminate high heel shoes. High heel shoes will cause toes to be pushed up (dorsiflexed) and shifts the bottom fat pad off the metatarsal bones. If one must wear high heel shoes, wearing a callus pad or metatarsal pad will help.

3. Wearing socks. Socks will cushion the foot, preventing the friction and pressure causing foot callus.

4. Correct abnormal gait. If one walks, jogs or runs wrong, then the pressure or friction will cause a callus. Wearing a corrective orthotic such as our heat mold orthotic will help decrease callus formation.

5. Prevent foot callus formation by wearing a callus pad to the affected area. Foam, felt or gel callus pads redistribute pressure and friction off the callus area.

Atlas Biomechanics manufacturers a full line of medical grade foot pads. These include U shaped callus pads, Oval callus pads, Dancer’s / Sesamoid pads, Corn pads, Ball of Foot / Metatarsal pads and Morton’s Neuroma pads.

Sesamoiditis Treated With Dancer's Pads

Sesamoiditis is foot condition where the small bones under the big toe joint become inflamed. This can occur from an injury, overuse and poor shoes. One of the most successful but not well know treatment is to use a dancers pad for sesamoiditis.

Dancers Sesmoiditis pads are foot cushions designed to off-load the ball of foot, especially the big to joint. They distribute the weight around the sesamoid bones to allow them to heal. Dancer's pads are manufactured in adhesive backed felt of foam and a self-sticking, re-usable gel. The felt and foam sesamoid pads can be placed either in the shoe or directly on the foot. Most physicians will apply them directly to the foot for greater effect.

When the area surrounding the sesamoid bones in the foot becomes inflamed, the result is a painful condition called sesamoiditis. Sesamoiditis affects the area under the big toe, causing discomfort in the foot during normal activities like walking. Searching your symptoms online might bring up rest as the best way to relieve sesamoid pain, but taking time off work is not always feasible. Even though avoiding walking isn’t practical for many people, treating sesamoid pain is easy, inexpensive and convenient with self-adhesive dancers’ pads. Cushioned felt sesamoid pads from Atlas Biomechanics come in packs of 100, so you can save money by taking advantage of wholesale pricing. Our sesamoiditis pads are made in the United States from top-quality materials. Find yours today, and be sure to read more about treating sesamoiditis in our on-site resource library.

Sesamoiditis Treated with Dancer's Pads

Sesamoiditis is a painful foot condition on the bottom of the big toe joint. It occurs when the two pea-shaped foot bones called sesamoids and the surrounding tissue becomes inflamed. Sesamoiditis can occur from several methods. Some common causes are from trauma, overpronation, arthritis, ill-fitting shoes and overuse. Dancers, especially ballet dancers commonly get sesamoiditis from their use of the ball of the foot.

Conservative treatment of sesamoiditis includes physical therapy, ice, rest, anti-inflammatory medication and dancer's pads. Dancer's pads are foot pads designed to offload the big toe joint ( 1st MPJ). This will allow stress off the sesamoid to speed up the healing. Dancers pads for sesamoiditis are a ball of foot pads with the big toe joint cut out. These pads can be manufactured from stick-on adhesive felt or foam. Another type of dancer's pads is produced from a self-sticking reusable gel. Most of the time physicians will apply the foot cushion directly to the skin. The pads can be changed daily. Another option is to stick the dancer's/sesamoid pad to the insole of the shoe. This cushion does not need to be changed since it is already in the shoe.

Atlas Biomechanics is a woman-owned sports medical manufacturer of dancers pads for sesamoiditis. The most popular foot pad among our physician clients to treat the sesamoids is our felt 1/4" dancers/sesamoid pads.

Sesamoiditis Treated With Dancers Pads

Sesamoiditis is a medical condition when the foot's sesamoid bones become inflamed.  The sesamoid bones and the surrounding tissues can also become painful. When a patient as sesamoiditis, this pain is felt under the big toe joint (first metatarsal joint). Sesamoiditis can be easily treated with stick-on foot pads called Dancer's Pads.

The sesamoid bones are two free-floating pea-shaped bones lying on the bottom of the first metatarsal head. They help the big toe joint to bend and assist with walking ( gait ). They act like a pulley system with the big toe flexor tendon.

Dancer's cushions are also called dancer, sesamoid pads or dancers pads. They are foot pads that look like a ball of foot pad (metatarsal) cushions. The only difference is that the dancer's pad has a first metatarsal cut out. This cut out allows the dancer's pad to offload pressure on the big toe joint where the sesamoids are located.

Dancers pads come in stick-on adhesive felt or foam and a reusable, self-sticking gel. These sesamoid cushions come in 1/8" (3mm) and 1/4" (6mm) thickness.

Atlas Biomechanics produces dancer's pads here in the USA from medical grade materials.
